Loitering at Lake Merritt with Sonia Paul

Just as Another Word For Love was coming out, one of the first interviews I did was with Sonia Paul for the online journal Alta . Sitting by Lake Merritt in Oakland, surrounded by geese, joggers and the occasional siren, we covered a wide range of topics about writing and love and sex and healing. It was early in my book tour so in a lot of ways I was not as polished in talking about those things as I am now, which, to me, gives this conversation a kind of honest rawness. I like it.

Alta had a word count that was pretty small, but Sonia and I both loved the convo so much we decided to release the whole thing, un-paywalled on both of our substacks
